VSC Swimmers & Families
The summer season is quickly coming to an end. Here are the final events of the season. We will have a dual meet with Shorewood Swim Club on Tuesday July 15th, starting at 5:00. Shorewood Swim Club is located in Shorewood Forest west of Valparaiso on highway 30. We will have a sign up sheet at the pool with details. This is a fun outdoor meet; it is not a sanctioned meet, as their pool is short of 25 yards, ideal for the little ones who did not get a chance to participate in a meet this summer. There are awards given out and there is no cost for this meet! On Thursday July 10th during regular practice time from 5-7, we will have an end of the season party at the pool for everyone. We will also be giving recognition to Cameron Iggins who will be going to state at the end of July. We are hoping for more state qualifiers at the Irish meet!! Good luck to everyone. Swim club members will have fun with the coaches in the water from 5-6:30 then families will be invited for either pizza or subs afterwards. There will be a sign up sheet at the pool for the party, we will be asking families to sign up to bring a dessert, snack or beverages. Please R.S.V P. on this sheet so that we are sure to have enough food.
We want to thank Coach Kristy and Darlene Perry for all that they have done this summer season. I know we have all enjoyed Coach Kristy but unfortunately she will need to return to the High School at her position as assistant coach to the girls. We will miss her and hope to see her around the pool. Congratulations to all the swimmers this summer on all the progress that has been made by them. Everyone’s strokes look great and we definitely have seen some phenomenal time drops too.
I hope that all of you will be joining us again in the fall, along with those who will be returning after taking the summer off plus any new swimmers who will join us. Our tentative start date is Sept. 15th for new swimmers and the Advance Team. The Blue and Green Team will tentatively begin on Sept.22nd. We are looking forward to continuing our move towards improving the club with the hiring of head coach Manny Perez. Manny has been involved with the sport of swimming since 1990 as an athlete, instructor, and coach. We are very excited about the great new ideas he has for us. We are very hopeful that all the swimmers will be practicing at Valpo H.S from Sept. thru March. We are anticipating no need for another practice site as in the past. Enclosed you will find a list of the current VSC board members and committee chairs and their emails. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, concerns or suggestions. We are still looking for someone to chair the Spirit Wear committee. We are also looking for help with the popcorn parade. If you are interested in either of these two areas, please e-mail me.
