The Valparaiso Swim
Club offers training and practice groups for swimmers of
all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the
Valparaiso Swim Club to offer age specific
training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each
individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR
abilities.

Here is a list of the groups we
currently offer
Swim School - This group
is our entry level swim lesson program. Kids 5 and up have a chance
to experience the sport of swimming. Our experienced teachers work
with kids from the basics of floating to teaching them how to swim
entire lengths of the pool in the 4 competitive strokes.
Hammer Heads – This
group is designed for our beginning swimmer that has completed swim
lessons and is now capable of successfully swimming a 25 front
crawl and a 25 backstroke. Athletes in this group will be
introduced to racing and competitive swimming. Athletes in
this group are eligible and highly encouraged to participate in
meets. At the end of the season all athletes are expected to
compete in the Conference Championship.
Tiger Sharks –
Athletes must reach the minimum age of 8 years old. Athletes in
this group are capable of completing a 100 IM legally. In the
previous season the athlete should also have maintained a 70%
attendance rating. This group will continue the transition
from beginner swimmer towards a highly competitive athlete.
Dolphins - Athletes in
this group must be a minimum of 9 years old. Also they should have
completed the requirements to post an 11-12 IMX score. In the
previous season the athlete should also have maintained an 80%
attendance rating. This group is developed to refine a swimmers
technique during those prepubescent growth spurts.
Barracudas - Athletes in
this group must be a minimum of 11 years old. They should also
possess the equivalent of 2 divisional cuts for an 11-12 year old
athlete of their gender. In the previous season the athlete
should also have maintained an 80% attendance rating. This group
focuses on race preparation and teaching the athletes about
nutrition, and training cycles.
Sailfish - Athletes for
this group must be a minimum age of 13 by the end of the upcoming
season. Athletes should have obtained 3 national AA times standards
prior to training with this group. In the previous season the
athlete should also have maintained an 85% attendance rating. This
group focuses on training various energy systems of the body.
Athletes will push their anaerobic and aerobic threshold.
With placing athletes in any
group there is also a coaching discretion based on the physical
abilities of the child since not every child develops the same way.
Also sometimes it is important to maintain certain social groups in
order to create the best environment for all members of our
organization.
